Aug 3 The Eastern RCR is getting closer and is struggling to get many Canadian entries. It appears as though there will be a good number of US based sailors entering but maybe only a couple of Canadians so far.

This event, at the Kingston Yacht Club facility, is sailed at one of the premier locations for model boat racing in Canada and is as close to guaranteed to provide excellent sailing conditions as any location we ever sail at.

IOM sailing is seeing a bit of a resurgence along the US eastern coast and number of those make up the current entry list. This is an opportunity to race with some of the best North American IOM boats and skippers that is hard to come by.

As you are probably aware, there is now a kind of imbalance in activity in this class that sees the western end of the country more active. That has not always been the case as the class was very active on the eastern side. Hopefully we can see some spillover of the re-growth  in the eastern US come into Canada.

Normally, we would give recognition to eastern based AMYA Regional events as counters for our ranking system. At this point the US Class Association has given our Eastern Regional the same status in their ranking as they would give to a AMYA Regional. In recognition of that status, and in an effort to maybe provide some incentive for more Canadians to enter this event, we are going to make this event into a double points event for CRYA members who compete.

How about getting your entry on the list here? If you have a boat and could “charter” it to another CRYA member that could work out as well. Paul Switzer puts a lot of effort into holding this event every year and a decent Canadian showing would help make all that work have good value.
